Scotiabank Convention Centre has just recently opened and the events to be held at the Niagara Falls convention centre keep piling up.  If you would like to see the list of booked events at Scotiabank Convention Centre CLICK HERE.  Outside of the great summer events being held weekly at Scotiabank Convention Centre, plans for the falls are already in the works.  There are plans for the largest halloween party in Niagara Falls to be held at the Scotiabank Convention Centre.  Nothing is official yet, but the event organizers are hoping to make the Halloween Party in Niagara Falls not only the largest in the city, but North America.  The idea of an event of that magnitude is great for Niagara Falls and would be another example of what the facilities at Scotiabank Convention Centre are capible of.

They didn’t cut any corners when rennovating the Four Points Sheraton Fallsview.  Everything was done with the hotel guests in mind.  That’s why the went to the extreme of moving the lobby.  Changing the hotel entrance from the Fallsview side to the Robinson side created a larger, more comfortable lobby space.  There is now much more room for vehicles arriving at the hotel, valet, and short term parking.  This makes this Fallsview hotel more efficient and more importantly, safer for its guests.

The long awaited opening of the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls is just a few short weeks away.  The Fallsview Hotels.com told you all about Niagara Falls’ newest tourism asset in an earlier article.  But now with the grand opening looming, we wanted to update you on the plans for the inaugural weekend at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls.

On Friday, April 8th, the convention centre will be officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4pm.  It is open to the public and free to attend, so if you are in the Niagara Falls area you may want to check it out.  Following that, there is the VIP Grand Opening Reception.  This event is reserved for private invitees of the Scotiabank Convention Centre.  However the Greater Niagara Region Home & Garden Show will begin immediately following the ribbon cutting ceremony and will be held in the Scotiabank Convention Centre’s Exhibition Hall.  This is also a free event for the general public.  There are already two free events for the people of Niagara Falls to attend.

Day two at the Scotiabank Convention Centre features the Grand Opening Dinner Gala.  This event is also attended by invitation only.  The Greater Niagara Region Home & Garden Show continues all day Saturday at the convention centre and offers free admission.

Sunday, April 10th is Family Day at the Scotiabank Convention Centre.  There will be events in the Theater Lobby and this is free for the public to attend.  Flyin’ Bob will perform 2 shows that Day in the Theater.  Tickets are just $5.00 and children under 2 yrs of age are admitted free.  The Greater Niagara Region Home & Garden Show also continues in the convention centre on Sunday.

The real stars of Marineland are the water mamales and the amazing shows that they put on throughout the day.  You will be dazzled by the high flying killer whales and dolphins.  The walruse, sea lions, and beluga whales are great entertainment as well, and you can even interact with some of them as well.  There are land animals that kids can interact with as well.

Marineland is just a few minutes from any Fallsview hotel.  You are literaly a turn or two away from the park if you’re on Fallsview Blvd.  This is good to keep in mind if you are planning to visit Marineland while on your vacation in Niagara Falls.  Or, if you choose not to stay at a hotel in Niagara Falls, you can camp right on site at Marineland as well.  It really is a wonderful place with many options for travelers.

This arrangement is great for the travelers looking for hotel deals in Niagara Falls and great for the travel websites.  However, the hotels in Niagara Falls realize a room rate loss that is beginning to become significant.  If you take into account the discounted room rate that the travel websites require, then the percentage of the booking that the travel websites take as commission, you begin to see that the hotels in Niagara Falls are conceding a substantial portion of their potential room rate.  This is were lines get blurred and variables come into play.  Niagara Falls hotels begin to look at profit and loss, room rate variance, and try to determine how to stay competitive with hotel room rates for travelers but still keep their profits up.

So what does this all mean?  We’ll we have found that some, not all, hotels in Niagara Falls are not giving there lowest discounted hotel room rates to the travel sites anymore.  Yes the rates on the travel sites are discounted, but not as much as the hotels had in the past.  These hotels in Niagara Falls are giving the biggest discounts to the travelers who book their hotel stays directly through the hotels official website.  The hotels are able to offer greater discounts on their official websites because they are not paying commissions to the travel sites.  By using this pricing strategy, these hotels in Niagara Falls are maintaining a presence on the travel sites, rewarding travelers who book through the hotels directly, and increasing their profitability.  The more profitable the hotel, the better the travel experience for you.  The hotel can afford more staff, better accommodations, renovations, etc.

We are not saying that the large travel sites are misleading consumers, or scamming the hotels.  We are also not saying that this scenario is true for every hotel in Niagara Falls.  What are saying is simply this; look around.  There are great vacation packages and travel deals everywhere.  Don’t assume that the first good deal you see is the best one just because a well known website told you it was.  That being said, make sure that if you do book a vacation online that the site is reputable or it is the official site of the hotel you are booking at.  With a little extra effort and a few more mouse clicks, you may be able to save yourself some money.

We wanted to come up with a guide for travelers to Niagara Falls on whats new or changed with the hotels in Niagara Falls.  Even though Niagara Falls isn’t the largest of cities, there are many different areas each of which offers a different vacation experience.  The hotels in these areas are vastly different too.  Well, as vastly different as a hotel can be.

Fallsview Tourist District

The first section of Niagara Falls in the Fallsview Tourist District.  This site obviously focuses on that particular area rather heavily, and for good reason.  We feel that anyone traveling to Niagara Falls should consider staying in this area first.  If it’s a family vacation, or couples, business, friends getaway, seniors, and everything in between, this area can accommodate you.  Why, you ask? Fallsview Blvd runs parallel to Niagara Falls.  There isn’t much land between the blvd and the falls so the hotels and businesses on the street are right on top of the falls.  Not only that, but Fallsview Blvd runs along the best part of Niagara Falls, The Horseshoe Falls.  The Horseshoe Falls is the biggest portion of Niagara Falls, and the water has the longest free fall.  This means it is the most appealing part to look at.  The other portion of Niagara Falls, The American Falls, has large rocks along the length and at the foot of the falls.

So what does all this mean?  Well the hotels in Niagara Falls that are on Fallsview Blvd have the best views of the falls.  They are also located within a short walk, so there is added convenience as well.  The other reason that we feel that Fallsview is the only way to stay is this; Fallsview Blvd has really only been developed over the past ten to fifteen years or so.  That means that these Niagara Falls hotels are the newest, most modern, and in our opinion the best. 

Okay, so now you know about Fallsview Blvd.  Now you need to know whats there.  The Fallsview Casino Resort is the obvious crown jewel of the Fallsview area.  It was the second casino to arrive in Niagara Falls and believe me, the second time they got it right.  But we’ll explain that later.  On top of having the casino, the world class hotels are in abundance on Fallsview as well.  The Embassy Suites, Four Points Sheraton, Hilton, Marriott, Radisson, and Double Tree are just a few.  These are the overall best hotels in Niagara Falls.  But it’s not just about the views of Niagara Falls and the hotels, the entertainment is the best you’ll find as well.  There are always shows at the Fallsview Casino & Resort, and obviously the gambling as well.  The restaurants are second to none, and there are such a variety of them.  Everything from Brazilian steakhouses to TGI Fridays, Italian to Japanese, there is sure to be something you love, or something new to try.  We always recommend The Keg Steakhouse.  The Keg has the best view of Niagara Falls, period.  The food is amazing and the atmosphere is very unique.  By that we mean the restaurant aways seems appropriate no matter the occasion.  Whether you’re a family with small kids, guys just finished up with a round of golf, or a couple out for a romantic diner, you will never feel out of place at the Keg.

Victoria Ave/Clifton Hill

The next area of Niagara Falls we would like to explain is the Victoria Ave/Clifton Hill part of town.  This was the most desirable part of town until Fallsview was developed.  It still is a good place to be, especially if you’re a family with younger kids.  The hotels are older, but they all keep up on their renovations.  They have to to stay on par with the newer hotels in Niagara Falls.  The area is little more “touristy” than the rest of Niagara Falls.  That’s why we think its great for families with younger kids.  Clifton Hill is known as “the street of fun” in Niagara Falls.  The street winds down from Victoria Ave to the gorge and overlooks Niagara Falls.  This area is more in line with the American Falls which we spoke about earlier.  Clifton Hill is like a big carnival, so kids love it.  But there are things for adults to as well.  There are some great restaurants, nightlife, and Casino Niagara.  Casino Niagara was the first casino built in Niagara Falls.  It serves it’s purpose, but pales in comparison to the Fallsview Casino.

The hotels in this section of Niagara Falls are still very good.  They may not be as new, but it is not as if you’re down grading to mom and pop motels by staying on Victoria Ave.  Hotels such as the Courtyard by Marriott, Sheraton, Howard Johnson’s and Hampton Inn can be found in this part of Niagara Falls.  Many of the hotels are within walking distance to Niagara Falls, however in many cases it is not a short walk.  But Victoria Ave and Clifton Hill do offer more things to do that are just outside of your hotel then you will see in the Fallsview area.  The streets are lined with shops, restaurants, bars, and family fun things like fun-houses, wax museums, and rides.  It is great for families that need to keep kids active and entertained all day long.

Lundy’s Lane/Main St

Lundy’s Lane and Main St aren’t intersecting streets.  In fact, they are in completely different parts of town.  But the areas are similar in that they are off the beaten path and you may find yourself considering staying at some of the hotels.  There are some good hotels in these areas of Niagara Falls.  But, keep in mind that in most cases you will be driving the attractions in Niagara Falls.  That isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  For travelers to Niagara Falls looking for a great value, here is where you may find the best deals.  Some of the hotels realize that they have to their lower rates to compete with the hotels in the more “desirable” areas of Niagara Falls.  You may be able to find a substantial savings buy staying at one of these hotels.  However, be cautious of hotels in these areas that claim that they are near Niagara Falls.  Again, some are within a reasonable distance but many are not.
